Meet "Dazed and Confused"
This was our entry into the July competition at WIRL (Woodcar
Independent Racing League) which is a competition amongst the best
pinewood derby car builders in the country. "Dazed and Confused"
took 2nd place in the Pure Stock division which most closely resembles
the rules for the regular pinewood derby races with regular BSA wheels
and a standard wheel base. However, as you can see, this car has
some serious speed tip modifications built into its design. It
posted a combined average time of 2.8953 seconds (40 ft. track) but lost by a mere
.0011 seconds to "Raptor", a super fast car built by BeakerBoys Racing,
one of the top builders in the league. "Alastor" which had a slight
issue in this race holds the current track record for combined average
time (2.8821 seconds) and won the division every month since March. The builder, ProQuest Performance Pinecars
also holds the record on the track used by WIRL for several years in
this division which was replaced by the current track in March. CUL8R
was our June entry in the division and tied for 3rd with an average time
of 2.8977 seconds. "EYES" pictured to the right was our Pro Stock entry in June and took 3rd
in that division with an average time of 2.8334 seconds.
League Racing (WIRL, PWDR, WIPR and
P-D-D-R)
League racing, commonly known as proxy racing, is
very addictive but can be a terrific experience for adults who want to
learn how to incorporate more speed into their scout's local pinewood
derby race. We would first recommend that you begin reading the
various posts available on the message boards which include tremendous
amounts of information on how to incorporate the newest speed tips into
your pinewood derby car as well as information on league racing and all
things associated with this wonderful event. You can ask your own
questions as well as there is always a top notch builder who is eager to
help. Then, put together your best pinewood derby car design and see how it stacks up
against other league racers. You may have to take a slight hit to
your pride once or twice along the way but in the end, you will learn so
much more about building truly fast pinewood derby cars and how you can help your scout even further in his
local pinewood derby race.
The following are links to the most popular
pinewood derby racing leagues in WIRL, PWDRacing, WIPR and P-D-D-R as well as the most popular message boards for pinewood
derby interests. One of the best parts about the sites is that you
can also see the video for the races for each month. Simply go to the
home page and click on video below the listing for each month's races.

I have to congratulate my son on the paint job by the
way! I told him I wanted a paint job that truly represented the
Dazed and Confused design and he did a terrific job with just 7
different color spray cans. He had fun!!!
